Hertz AI Scanners May Cost Consumers Hundreds in Repairs for Small Marks

Shub Johns & Holbrook launches an investigation into Hertz Global Holdings, the vehicle rental service, after reports that consumers were charged hundreds of dollars for small dents, scrapes, or other marks detected by the rental company’s new artificial intelligence vehicle scanner.

Hertz has implemented a new AI-powered scanner called UVeye tech.  This new AI-powered scanner allegedly detects minor scuffs or blemishes on the vehicle, charging the consumer for the damages, and leaves little room for consumers to dispute the potentially-bogus charges.

Uveye, Hertz’s new AI-driven vehicle inspection system, has been criticized by consumers for instantly scanning vehicles and charging consumers without any human interaction in between. After the AI system scans vehicles for any potential damage, consumers have noted receiving invoices for little marks or scuffs with allegedly no ability to dispute the damages. The technology also provides small discount windows where consumers can pay for the damages at a reduced price, but with customer support response times taking approximately ten days, frustrated consumers are concerned they aren’t given enough time to talk with a Hertz representative before the discount window is up.

Most consumers are reportedly frustrated with the breakdown of fees. One consumer indicated that the AI scanner detected a scuff on one of the car’s wheels, resulting in a $440 charge – $250 for repairs, but $125 for processing and $65 as an administrative fee. Consumers may be worried that the car rental giant is taking of the AI-powered scanner to deceive consumers into paying hundreds of dollars for alleged vehicle damage with little room for consumers to dispute.

If you are a consumer who recently rented a vehicle with Hertz and were subject to the AI-powered scanner, resulting in a large bill for potential damages, let us know! Fill out the attached form and join the Shub Johns & Holbrook investigation today!
