Egg Distributors Investigated Following Concerns of Price Manipulation

Eggs have been expensive! A major cultural talking point in the modern US economy that many Americans have reluctantly accepted as today’s current state. But have egg production giants been colluding together to artificially inflate the price of its eggs? Many egg distributors come under scrutiny after federal and state authorities alleged egg price manipulation! Are you impacted?

Egg Price-Fixing Scheme

According to federal and state investigators, certain egg distributing companies, such as Cal-Maine Foods, Versova, Inc. which manages Centrum Valley Farms, and Hickman’s Egg Ranch, allegedly influenced a widely used egg pricing benchmark between June 2022 and March 2025 by coordinating their bidding activity.

According to investigation reports, these companies communicated with each other to submit higher bids that artificially increased the benchmark price published by Urner Barry, a publication providing comprehensive market information. Antitrust laws prohibit agreements among competitors that unlawfully restrain competition and increase prices for consumers.

Consumers who regularly purchased eggs during the alleged conspiracy period may have paid more at grocery stores as a result of the alleged price manipulation. And while authorities develop a corrective action plan, it does not currently provide any recourse for every-day consumers.

Shub Johns & Holbrook LLP is investigating whether consumers may have legal claims arising from the alleged egg price-fixing scheme. If you purchased eggs between June 2022 and March 2025 and believe you paid artificially inflated prices, contact our firm or complete our online form to learn more about the investigation and your potential legal rights.
