DATS Cybersecurity Incident

Shub Johns & Holbrook LLP is currently investigating Drug and Alcohol Treatment Services, Inc. (“DATS”) for an apparent failure to safeguard sensitive consumer information in a data breach that was detected on or around December 2024. Drug and Alcohol Treatment Services, a private Pennsylvania-based outpatient treatment center, discovered that an unauthorized actor gained access to client data within DATS’s systems. Through further investigation, it was determined that the breach took place between October 5 and October 6, 2024.

Though the data security breach occurred in October of 2024, the Company did not publicly announce the data breach until late April 2025. DATS has indicated that approximately 22,000 individuals have been impacted by the breach. Consumer information exposed in the breach may vary but can include:

Name
Social Security number
Date of birth
Address
Health insurance information
Patient account numbers
Medication information
Diagnosis and treatment information
Doctor names
Medical claims and billing information

The cybercriminals responsible for the breach may have already obtained and sold the compromised consumer information. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, medical and/or government services ordered in their name, or their information being posted on the dark web.
