DaVita Data Breach

Shub Johns & Holbrook LLP is currently investigating DaVita, Inc. for an apparent failure to safeguard sensitive consumer information in a data breach that was detected in or mid-April.

DaVita, a Colorado-based dialysis healthcare company with over 2,500 centers nationwide, discovered that an unauthorized actor gained access to client data within DaVita’s systems through a ransomware attack. Seemingly, DaVita’s investigation is ongoing and details about the data breach are still being discovered.

DaVita has not been able to indicate the approximate number of individuals that have been impacted by the breach, but the ransomware group associated with the breach claims to have collected 20 terabytes of data, potentially comprised of over 200 million patient and consumer data points.

The cybercriminals responsible for the breach may have already obtained and sold the compromised consumer information. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, medical and/or government services ordered in their name, or their information being posted on the dark web.
