Fuel Pump Issues with the Chevrolet Silverado

Owners of 2022 – 2024 Chevrolet Silverado have taken to online forums to voice their concerns with a potential fuel pump defect that may cause the vehicle to shut down unexpectedly leaving some consumers on the side of the road or stranded in the middle of the highway.

This alleged defect, thought to be an issue with the fuel pump control module, reportedly causes the vehicle to lose its power at unexpected times. This can put consumers in serious danger if driving at high speeds on a freeway or if in heavy traffic.

Some consumers also report a potentially dangerous safety concern discovered following the fuel pump defect: They can’t put their vehicle in neutral. General Motors and Chevrolet supposedly sell an additional tool known as a manual park release (DT-52910) that does not come standard with vehicle. Despite the part being seemingly necessary when an issue such as this occurs, the special tool is marketed at about $300 and sold through dealerships.

Consumers should not have to pay for “special tools” in the case of an emergency or for safety concerns. Multiple consumers have reported similar issues with the alleged fuel pump defect and the inability to put their vehicle in neutral due to the lack of a manual release tool, potentially leading to an expensive roadside service bill.
