Chestnut Hill Hospital Class Action – Judge Grants Summary Judgment Motion

The Philadelphia Court presiding over a class action lawsuit against Chestnut Hill Hospital or the CHHS Hospital Company LLC (CHHS) recently granted Plaintiff’s Motion for Partial Summary Judgment on Defendant’s liability concerning Philadelphia’s Fair Criminal Record Screening Standards ordinance, also known as the Ban the Box regulation.

The class action case alleges that Hospital requested information from individuals who applied for employment at CHHS in Philadelphia between October 1, 2017 and September 30, 2020 about their criminal history during the application process, potentially in violation of Philadelphia’s Ban the Box ordinance. The court had previously certified the affected class and granted final approval for the Parties’ partial class action settlement.
