A Pennsylvania court recently appointed Shub Johns & Holbrook Partner, Benjamin F. Johns – along with Co-Counsel – as Interim Co-Lead Counsel in a consolidated class action lawsuit against Allegheny Health Network after a data breach allegedly exposed individuals’ personal identification and private health information.
The case is captioned Dimoff v. Allegheny Health Network, No. 2:25-cv-0125. This case was filed in the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Continue reading to learn more.
On or around November 19, 2024, Allegheny Health Network (“Allegheny Heath” or “AHN”), a Pennsylvania-based health organization serving over a hundred thousand consumers across urban and rural communities, discovered that an unauthorized actor had gained access to AHN’s patient information.
Though the company learned of the security breach in November 2024, the company did not begin notifying consumers until January 2025. Following the breach AHN engaged in an investigation to determine what information had been exposed in the data breach. The company discovered that approximately 294,000 former and current patients were impacted by the breach, with the unauthorized party gaining access to sensitive information such as patients’ names, dates of birth, addresses, Social Security numbers, financial account numbers (but no access codes), health insurance identification numbers and other health insurance information, and treatment information including diagnoses, provider information, treatments/procedures, dates of service, prescription information, and medical device serial numbers.
On January 24, 2025, Shub Johns & Holbrook filed a class action lawsuit against Allegheny Health for the potential impact that the data breach could have or has already had on affected individuals.
On March 3, 2025, the Court granted Plaintiffs’ motion to Consolidate all class action matters against Allegheny Health and the affected third-party vendor related to the data breach, Intrasystems, LLC – a Massachusetts-based data management company. Following consolidation of the case, Counsel for Plaintiffs filed a motion to appoint lead Counsel in the Geisinger case, and on March 31, 2025 Honorable Judge J. Nicholas Ranjan issued a memorandum appointing Shub Johns & Holbrook Partner Benjamin F. Johns as interim co-lead counsel in the consolidated action.
Plaintiffs are now tasked with filing a consolidated amended complaint by April 30, 2025. If you received a notice letter from Allegheny Health or Intrasystems, LLC indicating that your information was involved in a data breach and you are experiencing instances of fraud or notice any suspicious activity, let us know!
