Shub & Johns files Class Action Lawsuit against Enzo Biochem, Inc.
On June 12, 2023, Shub & Johns filed a class action complaint in the in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York against Enzo Biochem, Inc. and Enzo Clinical Labs, Inc. (“Enzo”) for claims arising out of a data breach after allegedly failed to adequately safeguard the highly-sensitive medical and personal information entrusted to it.
Data Breach at Enzo Biochem Results in Class Action Suit
Enzo Biochem, Inc., a biotechnology and life sciences company based in New York, experienced a data breach through one of its subsidiaries, Enzo Clinical Labs. The data breach occurred on April 4 and 6, 2023 and exposed consumer information, including personal and protected health information, including Social Security Numbers, and clinical test information. Enzo discovered the data breach around April 11, but did not announce the data breach until May 30, 2023.
The data breach impacted the sensitive health information of more than approximately 2,470,000 individuals’ personally identifiable information and personal health information. The lawsuit alleges that Enzo patients and consumers whose information was exposed to unauthorized access have experienced or now face a heightened risk of identity theft and fraud. The lawsuit seeks class action status on behalf of all people whose private information was compromised in the data breach.
