SHUB & JOHNS FILES AMENDED CLASS ACTION COMPLAINT AGAINST CONNEXIN SOFTWARE, INC. FOR EXPOSING YOUNG PATIENT’S INFO IN A DATA BREACH
On April 28, 2023, Shub & Johns (S&J) filed a consolidated amended class action complaint against Connexin Software, Inc. (Connexin) for claims arising out of a data breach that occurred because Connexin left its servers susceptible to a cybersecurity attack.
Connexin Software, Inc./
Office Practicum Data Breach
Connexin, d/b/a Office Practicum, develops and publishes application software, specifically for pediatrician practices. As alleged in the amended complaint, Connexin detected a “data anomaly” on its internal network on August 26, 2022. An investigation revealed that an unauthorized party was able to access and remove patient data (the “Data Breach”). The patient information exposed in the Data Breach includes personal and protected health information, and, in some instances, Social Security numbers, that Connexin stored for its pediatrician practice customers. According to Connexin, the Data Breach impacted 119 pediatrician practices that Connexin provided services for.
Despite detecting the “data anomaly” in August 2022, and later learning in September 2022 that sensitive data had been accessed, Connexin did not publicly announce the data breach until November of 2022, when it began notifying pediatrician practices that their patients’ data had been compromised. The Data Breach compromised the sensitive health information of more than 2,000,000 individuals, including patients, their parents/guardians, and health insurance payers. The lawsuit alleges that consumers whose information was exposed to unauthorized access have experienced or now face a heightened risk of identity theft and fraud. The class action seeks to cover a class of all United States residents whose private information was compromised in the Data Breach.
