York County School of Technology Data Breach – Final Approval of Settlement Granted

The Pennsylvania Common Pleas Court presiding over a class action suit against York County School of Technology (“York”) recently granted final approval to a class action settlement.

The case is captioned Heflin v. York County School of Technology, Case No. 2024-SU-01254. The deadline to submit claims pursuant to the settlement has expired. Class members who have submitted valid claims may be able to anticipate payments in 2026.

Data Breach at York County School of Technology

York County School of Technology began notifying impacted consumers in April 2024 . The notice informed impacted consumers that a cybersecurity incident had occurred in or around March 2023 after which York conducted an investigation to determine the level of impact.

Approximately 31K individuals’ private information may have been impacted. Data impacted by the breach includes:

Full names
Dates of birth
driver’s license numbers
Social Security numbers

York County Class Action Lawsuit and Final Approval of Settlement

In April 2024, Shub Johns & Holbrook LLP filed a class action lawsuit against York for the potential impact that the data breach could have or has already had on affected individuals.

The parties reached an agreement to settle the York data breach case, which was preliminarily approved by the court in August 2025. Impacted individuals were notified in September 2025 about their eligibility to submit a claim pursuant to the settlement.

On January 9, 2026, the Court granted final approval of the class-wide settlement following the Court’s hearing on the same day.

The deadline to submit claims pursuant to the settlement has expired. Class members who have submitted claims may be able to anticipate payments later this year.
