Shub & Johns Files Class Action Complaint Against Onix Group, LLC after Data Breach Occurrence
On June 15, 2023, Shub & Johns and its co-counsel filed a class action complaint in the in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Onix Group, LLC for claims arising out of a data breach after the Onix Group allegedly failed to adequately safeguard the highly-sensitive medical and personal information entrusted to it.
ONIX GROUP, LLC BREACH RESULTS IN LAWSUIT
Onix Group, LLC is a conglomerate based in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania that operates in the hospitality, commercial real estate development, and healthcare industries. The data breach occurred on March 27, 2023 and exposed consumer information, including personal and protected health information, and in some instances, Social Security numbers with customers in the following industries: Addiction Recovery Systems, Cadia Healthcare, Physician’s Mobile X-Ray, Onix Group, and Onix Hospitality Group. Onix Group did not announce the data breach to the plaintiffs until three months later, on May 26, 2023, when it began notifying patients that their data had been compromised.
The data breach impacted the sensitive health information of more than approximately 319,500 individuals’ personally identifiable information and personal health information. The lawsuit alleges that Onix Group customers whose information was exposed to unauthorized access have experienced or now face a heightened risk of identity theft and fraud. The lawsuit seeks class action status on behalf of all people whose private information was compromised in the data breach.
