A class action lawsuit against Insight Global, LLC reached a final judgement on Thursday, April 6, 2023 after a data breach exposed thousands of individuals’ private health information. Victims of the data breach are to expect up to $5,000 each as outlined by the Settlement Agreement.
Covid Contact-Tracing Company, Insight Global, experiences Data Breach
Lisa Chapman and Lead Counsel, Shub & Johns LLC, filed a proposed class action lawsuit against Insight Global and the Pennsylvania Department of Health after a data breach exposed sensitive health information for more than 76,000 individuals following Pennsylvania’s Covid-19 contact tracing initiative.
The class action suit alleged that The Department of Health and Insight Global were negligent, failing to protect constituents’ sensitive health information during the contact tracing collection process. An amendment to the class action suit later dropped the Pennsylvania Department of Health from the case.
The data breach, occurring in April 2021, exposed information including names, indications of exposure to Covid-19 and the presence of Covid-19 symptoms, and other personal identifiers such as telephone numbers, household sizes, and more.
Insight Global Lawsuit reaches Final Approval on Settlement
Shub & Johns attended a Final Approval Hearing on April 6, 2023, where Honorable Judge Christopher C Conner of US District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania gave final approval on the Settlement.
The deal agreed upon by Class Counsel provides each victim of the data breach up to $5,000, with additional compensation of up to $250 per eligible victim for ordinary out-of-pocket expenses. Victims of the Insight Global data breach will also receive two years of credit monitoring services.
