Healthcare Services Group Data Breach Class Action – Preliminary Approval of $3 million Settlement Granted

Parties in the Healthcare Services Group, Inc. (“HSG) data breach case have reached a settlement in the cybersecurity class action. The Court has approved Plaintiff’s motion for preliminary approval of the $3 million settlement, allowing impacted individuals to file a claim by October 2026.

The case is captioned Richards, et al., v. Healthcare Services Group, Inc., Case No. 2:25-cv-04908-JDW (E.D. Pa.). The Data Breach Settlement website is not yet available, but will be soon. Class Members can expect more information about the settlement in July 2026.

Data Breach at Healthcare Services Group

In October 2024, Healthcare Services Group, Inc., a Pennsylvania-based provider of housekeeping, dining, and nutrition services, discovered that an unauthorized actor had gained access to private consumer data stored in HSG’s information systems.

It was further determined that the data breach took place between September 27, 2024 and October 3, 2024. The plaintiffs generally allege that HSG failed to adequately safeguard the sensitive information entrusted to it.

Approximately 624,500 individuals had their information compromised in the Healthcare Services Group data breach.

Class Action Case and Preliminary Approval of the HSG Settlement

In August of 2025, the plaintiffs filed a class action lawsuit against HSG in Pennsylvania Federal Court on behalf of persons impacted by the data breach. In October 2025, Plaintiffs filed an amended complaint consolidating additional cases similarly filed against HSG. The court subsequently appointed SJ&H Partner Benjamin F. Johns as interim co-lead counsel in the class action.

In May 2026, Plaintiffs filed an unopposed motion for Preliminary Approval of a class-wide settlement between the parties. On June 3, 2026, the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Court issued an order granting Plaintiffs’ motion for preliminary approval of the settlement. The Court’s order also designated Benjamin F. Johns as one of the three co-lead counsel for the settlement class. You can read the Court’s preliminary approval order here.

Individuals impacted by the breach will soon be notified and then have the chance to submit a claim through the claims deadline of October 1, 2026. The Court has scheduled a final approval hearing for September 24, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Additional details regarding the Proposed Settlement are still to come.

The case is captioned Richards, et al., v. Healthcare Services Group, Inc., Case No. 2:25-cv-04908-JDW (E.D. Pa.). The case was filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
