Shub Johns & Holbrook is investigating claims from consumers who have developed diseases such as Type 2 diabetes and non-alcoholic disease before the age of 18 potentially as a result of consuming ultra processed foods (UPF).
A recently filed class action suit against major food companies like Nestle, Heinz, Coca-Cola alleges that these large food processing corporations have negatively impacted children’s health and have exacerbated childhood chronic diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes or fatty liver disease, and possibly other afflictions due to the companies’ promotion of consumption of their ultra-processed foods.
UPFs are believed to pose a great danger to children who are raised while consuming these foods as they can contribute to increased rates of developing chronic diseases in young consumers. Diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes, obesity, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) used to more commonly affect older adults, but as rates of these afflictions in children and young adults have increased, consumers and plaintiffs attorneys call for increased attention to be placed on these ultra processed foods.
Addictive qualities baked into UPFs, as the lawsuit alleges, along with the industry’s strategy of marketing towards vulnerable groups such as children and developing youth create a serious issue that seemingly create a public health crisis. Warnings of the dangers associated with UPFs may have gone unanswered before, but Plaintiffs attorneys like Shub Johns & Holbrook seek to address these concerns on behalf of affected families.
