Uponor PEX Piping Systems – Premature Failure Concerns

Shub Johns & Holbrook LLP launch an investigation into Uponor PEX piping systems that have allegedly shown signs of premature failure, and for some consumers have resulted in unexpected degradation.

Uponor North America is a company that specializes in indoor climate and water solutions for residential and commercial locations, and is a leading manufacturer in PEX, or cross-linked polyethylene, piping systems, including Uponor’s Red, White, Blue, and “Natural” PEX pipes.

Uponor PEX pipes installed in homes after 2020 are allegedly experiencing issues that may lead to premature failure of the piping system. Potential defects, like oxidative degradation that stem from the manufacturing process, can cause the pipes to become frail and brittle. Due to this alleged defect, cracks and leaks may start appearing on the pipes as early as three years following installation.

The pipes are advertised to last 50 to 100 years! With an alleged defect potentially limiting the lifespan between three or ten years before experiencing failure and degradation, consumers may feel that their home is at risk.

Failures in any piping system can lead to water damage and may require repairs and additional labor, potentially costing the homeowner thousands in unexpected expenses. Consumers should not have to suffer for an alleged defect that was potentially a result of manufacturer oversight.
