Penn Medicine – Patient Overcharge Potential Class Action Lawsuit

The law firm of Shub Johns & Holbrook LLP is investigating a potential class action lawsuit against the University of Pennsylvania health system for potentially overcharging patients for certain medical consultations and procedures. Specifically, we have become aware of reports of patients who have gone to UPenn for routine appointments, such as a physical, and are then faced with bills containing hidden add-on charges, such as consultations for anxiety and acne. We are investigating whether this is part of maximizing the so-called “revenue cycle management” of patients in the hospital system. We are also investigating whether this alleged conduct may have caused third-party payors to overpay for care.
