Onix Group Data Breach Exposes Health & Identity Information of 319,500 People
Shub & Johns LLC is currently investigating Onix Group, LLC (“Onix”) for an apparent failure to safeguard sensitive patient and consumer information in a data breach that was detected on or around March 27, 2023. Onix, a Pennsylvania-based real estate company that provides management and consulting services to a variety of businesses, discovered that an unknown entity gained access to confidential consumer information through the company’s servers. According to Onix, the data security breach lasted from March 20, 2023 through March 27, 2023 and impacted approximately 319,500 individuals.
The information affected may have included consumers’ names, Social Security numbers, and dates of birth, as well as scheduling, billing, and clinical information. Though the data breach occurred in March 2023, The Onix Group did not begin notifying individuals of the data breach until May 30, 2023.
The cybercriminals responsible for the breach may have already obtained and sold the compromised consumer information. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, medical and/or government services ordered in their name, or their information being posted on the dark web.
