Shub Johns & Holbrook LLP is currently investigating Ohio Medical Alliance LLC d/b/a Ohio Marijuana Card (“OMA”) for an apparent failure to safeguard sensitive consumer information in a data breach that was detected in early September 2025. OMA, one of the largest medical marijuana card providers in Ohio who also services some surrounding states, discovered that an unauthorized actor gained access to client data within OMA’s systems. Through further investigation, it was determined that the breach took place in August 2025 – though details about the data breach are still being discovered.

OMA has indicated that approximately 957,434 individuals have been impacted by the breach. Consumer information exposed in the breach may vary but can include:

• driver’s licenses and license numbers
• names
• physical addresses
• dates of birth
• patient intake forms
• medical records
• release forms
• Social Security numbers
• physician certification forms
• and mental health evaluations

The cybercriminals responsible for the breach may have already obtained and sold the compromised consumer information. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, medical and/or government services ordered in their name, or their information being posted on the dark web.
