On September 29, 2023, a ransomware group known as BlackCat reportedly announced on their dark web site that they had successfully stolen over 6 terabytes of data from McLaren; the group, however, did not indicate for how long the breach occurred or what information was stolen. McLaren has indicated that approximately 2.5 million individuals have been impacted by the breach. Consumer information exposed in the breach may vary, but at this moment McLaren has not indicated what information may have been impacted.

The cybercriminals responsible for the breach may have already obtained and sold the compromised consumer information. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, medical and/or government services ordered in their name, or their information being posted on the dark web.

Affected by the Mclaren Health Data Breach

Individuals impacted by the breach will receive notices of the class-wide settlement starting January 29, 2026 and are eligible to submit a claim before the claims deadline of April 29, 2026. The Court has scheduled a final approval hearing for April 21, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Class members can access and make a claim through the Data Breach Settlement website here.
