Hertz may be Imposing Convenience Fees on Drivers

a person driving a car

Shub & Johns investigates Hertz Car Rental and the convenience fees Hertz has possibly imposed on drivers. Hertz charges its customers $9.99 a day in addition to tolls fees customers pay. Hertz drivers create a Hertz Toll account rather than state accounts for tolls, so as able to impose this convenience fee to upcharges customers for going through tolls. However, Hertz is required to provide an option to its customers, allowing them to use their own state accounts for passing tolls (like the E-ZPass, SunPass, FasTrak, etc). Allowing customers to use their own accounts would invalidate the convenience fees charged by Hertz. However, Hertz did not have this option open for many customers when it was in fact supposed to. Customers should be able to use their own state account transporters to avoid these convenience fees, and instead just pay the direct amount of the toll on their account.
