HealthAlliance Hospital Data Breach Impacts Patients

Healthcare staff decompresses in hallway.Shub & Johns is investigating HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston, New York for an apparent failure to safeguard sensitive patient information in a data breach that was detected on or around on or around October 12, 2023. HealthAlliance recently notified patients that for a period of nearly two months, unauthorized cybercriminals gained access to patient information including names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, diagnoses, lab results, medications, health insurance information, and more.

Healthcare providers like HealthAlliance have a responsibility to handle the personal information of their patients with care. When they fail to live up to this responsibility, their patients face the threat of identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to medical and/or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web.
