Shub Johns & Holbrook LLP is currently investigating Community Health Center (“CHC”) for an apparent failure to safeguard sensitive consumer information in a data breach that was detected on or around January 2, 2025. Community Health Center, a Connecticut-based healthcare provide providing medical, dental, and mental health services, discovered that an unauthorized actor gained access to client data within CHC’s information systems. Through further investigation, it was determined that the breach took place on or around October 14, 2024.

Though the data security breach was occurred in mid-October of 2024, the Company did not learn of the data breach until January 2, 2025. The company began delivering notification letters to those impacted by the breach on January 30, 2025 and affected consumers should anticipate receiving these letters soon after. CHC has indicated that approximately 1,060,936 individuals have been impacted by the breach. Consumer information exposed in the breach may vary but can include name, date of birth, address, phone number, email, diagnoses, treatment details, test results, Social Security Number (SSN), and health insurance information. For patients who received only specifically a COVID exam or vaccine, the information may be more limited.

The cybercriminals responsible for the breach may have already obtained and sold the compromised consumer information. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, medical and/or government services ordered in their name, or their information being posted on the dark web.
