Citi Field potentially Unlawfully Collecting Biometric Data

biometric scan of eye.Shub & Johns LLC launches investigation into Citi Bank, and potentially other venues, for claims that the venue may possibly be engaging in unlawful practices that include obtaining and collecting consumer biometric data without consent.

Consumers may be concerned that a visit to Citi Field – home to the New York Mets – in Queens, NY could result in the collection of their biometric data without them ever knowing. Biometric data includes body measurements, eye color, face shape, gait, and other individual characteristics that are specific to each person. New computer and vision technology allows some companies and venues to scan consumers using security camera footage in order to collect a database of patron biometrics.

While the idea of a computer quickly and accurately scanning your features can be neat, it can also feel as an invasion of your privacy when you don’t know its happening. This can become incredibly intrusive when everyday consumers find out that big companies and event venues may be collecting their biometric data, potentially profiting from your own features. This practice of profiting off of the collection of biometric data is illegal in the state of New York.
