Around October 3, 2023, it was discovered that McLaren Health Care, a Michigan-based healthcare provider, was impacted by a data breach when the ransomware group responsible for the attack took credit for the cybersecurity incident. McLaren then began notifying individuals that their information was involved in a data breach that allegedly exposed client and patient Social Security numbers, health insurance information, patient names, patient ID numbers, genders, dates of birth, ages, addresses, race, language spoken, religion, pregnancy status, and physician names.
The company learned of the security breach on August 31, 2023 and immediately conducted an investigation. McLaren determined that between July 28 and August 23, 2023, an unauthorized party gained access to confidential consumer and patient information through the company’s servers. Through further investigation, McLaren discovered that approximately 2.2 Million individuals’ information was affected.
On , October 5, 2023, Shub & Johns LLC filed a class action lawsuit against McLaren Health Care for the potential impact that the data breach could have or has already had on affected individuals. Plaintiff’s counsel subsequently filed a motion to consolidate cases related to the data breach and to appoint Shub & Johns along with cocounsel as interim co-lead counsel on October 16, 2023.
On April 3, 2024, the Michigan Court granted Plaintiff’s October 16th, motion to consolidate matters regarding the data breach at McLaren, and appointed Shub & Johns LLC, along with the Miller Law Firm and Milberg Bryson Coleman PLLC, as Interim co-Lead Class Counsel in the McLaren data breach Litigation.
