Keenan & Associates Data Breach – Final Approval of $14 million Settlement

The California Superior Court court presiding over a class action suit against Keenan & Associates (“Keenan”) for a data breach impacting consumers’ personal identifiable and private health information recently granted final approval to a $14 million class action settlement.

The case is captioned In Re: Heather Heath, et al. v. Keenan & Associates, Case No. 24STCV03018. The deadline to submit claims pursuant to the settlement has expired. Class members who have submitted claims may be able to anticipate payments in early 2026.

Data Breach at Keenan & Associates

Keenan & Associates notified impacted patients in late January 2024 of a cybersecurity incident that was occurred in or around August 2023 and conducted an investigation following the cybersecurity attack.

Through its investigation Keenan discovered that an unauthorized party had gained access to the company’s information systems. Through further investigation, Keenan discovered that over 1.5 million individuals’ PII and PHI may have been impacted. Data impacted by the breach includes:

  • Names
  • Passport numbers
  • Driver’s license numbers
  • Social Security numbers
  • Employment information
  • Health information
  • Health insurance information

Keenan & Associates Class Action Lawsuit and Final Approval of Settlement

In February 2024, Shub Johns & Holbrook LLP filed a class action lawsuit against Keenan & Associates for the potential impact that the data breach could have or has already had on affected individuals. The Court consolidated all class cases against the Keenan data breach the following month, and appointed Shub Johns & Holbrook partners as Interim co-lead counsel for the Plaintiffs.

The parties reached an agreement to settle the Keenan data breach case in July 2025, with the California Superior Court granting preliminary approval of the $14 million class action settlement. Impacted individuals were notified in August 2025 about their eligibility to submit a claim pursuant to the settlement.

On November 14, final approval of the $14 million settlement was granted following the Court’s Final Approval hearing on the matter. On November 26, the California Superior Court judge issued an order for final approval of the settlement.

The deadline to submit claims pursuant to the settlement has expired. Class members who have submitted claims may be able to anticipate payments in early 2026.
