Drug and Alcohol Treatment Services Data Breach- Samantha Holbrook appointed Interim Co-Lead Counsel in Consolidated Class Action

A Pennsylvania County Court recently appointed Shub Johns & Holbrook Partner, Samantha Holbrook – along with Co-Counsel – as Interim Co-Lead Counsel in a consolidated class action lawsuit against Drug and Treatment Services, Inc. (“DATS”) after a data breach allegedly exposed individuals’ personal identification and private health information.

The case is captioned Woytach v. Drug and Alcohol Treatment Services, Inc., No. 25-CV-3681 (Pa. Ct. Common. Pls). This case was filed in Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas for Lackawanna County. If you have been impacted by the data breach, feel free to fill out our investigation form.

Data Breach at Drug and Alcohol Treatment Services (DATS)

On or around May 2, 2025, DATS, a drug and alcohol addiction services provider based in Pennsylvania, began notifying consumers that its consumer and patient data had been impacted through a cybersecurity incident.

It was discovered that the unauthorized third party had gained access to consumers’ personal and private health information from October 5, 2024 through October 6, 2024. Following its investigation in December 2024, DATS discovered that approximately 22,215 former and current patients may have been impacted by the breach with the unauthorized party gaining access to sensitive information including the following:

  • Names
  • dates of birth
  • medical histories
  • treatment information
  • health insurance information
  • medical claims information
  • billing information
  • Social Security numbers
  • financial information

Samantha Holbrook Appointed Co-Lead in DATS Class Action Lawsuit

On May 14, 2025, Shub Johns & Holbrook filed a class action lawsuit against DATS  for the potential impact that the data breach could have or has already had on affected individuals.

On September 4, 2025, the Court granted Plaintiffs’ motion to Consolidate all class action matters against DATS. In its consolidation order, the Pennsylvania Court appointed Samantha Holbrook, a Partner with Shub Johns & Holbrook LLP, as Interim Co-Lead Counsel for Plaintiffs in the consolidated action.
