Data Breach with the Allegheny Health Network

hacker sitting at desk in low light.Allegheny Health Network, a Pennsylvania-based health organization made up of a 14-hospital academic medical system, was alerted to a data breach that impacted the private health information of approximately 293,000 home care patients. The company contracted a third-party provider to host, manage, and secure computer systems containing private information used by AHN subsidiary companies dealing with home medical equipment and home infusion. These information systems were directly infiltrated by an unauthorized party.

The company learned that it had experienced the cybersecurity incident on or around October 11, 2024, providing access of information to the unidentified parties for an unknown time. Information including names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, financial account numbers (no access codes), health insurance information, and treatment information such as diagnoses, provider information, treatments/procedures, dates of service, prescription information, and medical device serial numbers. were potentially acquired by the unauthorized party.

Class Action Lawsuit against Allegheny Health

On January 24, 2025, Shub Johns & Holbrook LLP filed a class action lawsuit against the Allegheny Health Network for the potential impact that the data breach could have or has already had on affected individuals.

The cybercriminals responsible for the breach may have already obtained and sold the compromised consumer information. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, medical and/or government services ordered in their name, or their information being posted on the dark web.
