Albany County Residential Telephone 911 Surcharge Investigation

Residential telephone customers may see several different taxes, fees, and surcharges on their monthly telephone bills. New York law provides exemptions from certain local emergency telephone surcharges, including an exemption applicable to residential access lines under Albany County’s local E911 surcharge statute.

Shub Johns & Holbrook LLP is investigating whether telephone service providers have properly distinguished exempt residential telephone lines from services subject to local emergency-service surcharges. Our investigation seeks to determine whether any residential customers have been charged local surcharges that do not apply to their service.
