Shub Johns & Holbrook LLP is currently investigating the University of Phoenix for an apparent failure to safeguard sensitive consumer information in a data breach that was detected on or around November 21, 2025.The University of Phoenix, a private university based in Arizona, discovered that an unauthorized actor gained access to data within the University of Phoenix’s information systems after the attackers exploited a vulnerability in one of the Oracle E-Business Suite, a financial application used by the university.

It is unclear when the ransomware group initially accessed the University of Phoenix’s data system, but impacted consumers can expect a notice providing more details on the data breach soon.

The University of Phoenix has indicated that numerous individuals have been impacted by the breach. Consumer information exposed in the breach may vary but can include:

  • Names
  • contact information
  • dates of birth
  • Social Security numbers
  • bank account and routing numbers

The cybercriminals responsible for the breach may have already obtained and sold the compromised consumer information. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, medical and/or government services ordered in their name, or their information being posted on the dark web.
