York County School of Technology Data Breach Class Action – Preliminary Approval of Settlement Granted

Parties in the York County School of Technology data breach case have reached a settlement in the cybersecurity class action. The Court has approved Plaintiff’s motion for preliminary approval of the settlement, allowing impacted consumers to file a claim this year. More information about the claims deadline is still to be determined but will be updated.

Data Breach at York County School of Technology

In late April 2023, York County School of Technology (“York”) began notifying individuals that their information had been involved in a data breach that exposed individuals’ personally identifying information (“PII”) and other private data.

York learned that it had experienced a cybersecurity attack in or around March 27, 2023, and conducted an investigation following the cyberattack. Through its investigation, York discovered that an unauthorized party had gained access to the company’s information systems. Through further investigation, York discovered that approximately 31,157 individuals’ private information was impacted. Data impacted by the breach includes:

  • Full names
  • Dates of birth
  • driver’s license numbers
  • Social Security numbers
  • And more!

Preliminary Approval of the York County Settlement

On April 26, 2024, Shub Johns & Holbrook LLP filed a class action lawsuit against York County School of Technology for the potential impact that the data breach could have or has already had on affected individuals.

On August 7, 2025, following a motion for settlement filed by the Plaintiff, the Court of Common Pleas for York County, Pennsylvania granted preliminary approval of the class action settlement for the affected class.

Pursuant to the Court’s Order, Benjamin F. Johns of Shub Johns & Holbrook LLP is designated as co-lead counsel for the settlement class. Individuals impacted by the breach will be notified and will have the chance to submit a claim through the settlement website, which will be published in the coming months. The Court will schedule a final approval hearing later this year. Additional details regarding the Proposed Settlement are still to come.
