June 18, 2021 – Jonathan Shub and Kevin Laukaitis have been appointed lead counsel overseeing a proposed settlement in the class action suit Mercado v. Verde Energy USA, Inc. The case is pending in the Northern District of Illinois.
Verde Energy USA is a green energy and natural gas utility provider that services multiple states in the Northeast and Midwest regions. The lawsuit alleges that Verde Energy overcharged the Plaintiff and proposed class members on their energy bills. Verde’s model of market-variable rates left customers with energy bills drastically higher than rates in the energy marketplace.
On August 18, 2021, U.S. District Judge Joan Gottschall granted preliminary approval of the class action settlement. Now, Shub Law is spearheading the settlement process to assist class members in filing claims to get a share of the $7 million settlement fund based on their energy consumption over the designated period.
