SHUB LAW FILES CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA HOSPITAL FOR MEDICAL INFORMATION DATA BREACH

On January 11, Shub Law and its co-counsel filed a class action complaint against Southwest Louisiana Hospital, d/b/a Lake Charles Memorial, a locally owned regional community healthcare center located in Lake Charles, Louisiana for claims arising out of a data breach that occurred at Southwest Louisiana Hospital in October 2022. The data breach occurred between October 20 and October 21, 2022 and exposed consumer information, including personal and protected health information, and in some instances, social security numbers, stored by Southwest Louisiana Hospital for its health provider customers. Southwest Louisiana Hospital did not announce the data breach publicly until a couple of months later on December 23, 2022, when it began notifying consumers that their data had been compromised. The data breach impacted the sensitive health information of over 269,000 individuals. The lawsuit alleges that consumers whose information was exposed to unauthorized access have experienced or now face a heightened risk of identity theft and fraud. The compromised information includes consumers’ names, member IDs and information that may have been provided during a health assessment, and more. The class action seeks to cover a class of all United States residents whose private information was comprised in the data breach notice published by Southwest Louisiana Hospital on or around December 23, 2022.
