SHUB LAW INVESTIGATES PORSCHE FOR DECEPTIVE MARKETING REGARDING FUEL ECONOMY

Shub Law is investigating claims for a class-action lawsuit against Porsche for an alleged illegal scheme to turn off emission controls. Porsche advertises that it has high-quality emission controls to save consumers money and help the environment, but it is alleged that the 2008-2016 Porsche 911 and 2008-2016 Porsche Panamera cars are equipped with illegal emissions defeat devices that turn off emissions controls.

PORSCHE ALLEGEDLY MANIPULATING EMISSIONS HARDWARE

Porsche sports cars are advertised to have better emissions and fuel economy, which is part of the reason why consumers will pay a high amount for the luxury brand. But are consumers really getting what they are paying for?

It has been alleged that Porsche vehicles will switch exhaust filters depending on internal engine modes, and this manipulation leads to insufficient fuel economy. Allegedly, Porsche vehicles are approved by German’s Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB), but then tampering will occur after the approval. This alleged deception leads to consumers losing money on the car’s purchase, fuel, and also negatively affects the environment.

HOW THE ALLEGED DECEPTION HARMS CONSUMERS

Consumers claim that they purchased the Porsche 911 model for the emissions, fuel economy, and better-advertised performance, and put forth thousands of dollars for what they felt they were receiving. Unfortunately, consumers realized they paid way more than the value of the vehicle exhibited. It has been alleged that Porsche never exceeds 20 miles per gallon and will often get about five miles per gallon less than advertised. While consumers are being duped, Porsche is also contributing to further pollution based on these allegations.

The alleged emissions defeat device will affect not just the fuel economy but will lead to error codes. When these error codes are on, it is alleged that the Porsche 911 model will suffer leaks, generate poorer emissions, and will burn fuel at a lower rate. Clearly, these are not the conditions for a high performance, luxury vehicle, and Porsche should not advertise it as such.
