SHUB LAW INVESTIGATES GENERAL MOTORS FOR ALLEGEDLY DEFECTIVE CAR WHEELS

Shub Law Firm is investigating claims against General Motors (GM) for Chevrolet’s allegedly defective wheels.

Chevrolet is one of the many car companies that is owned by GM. Recently, Chevrolet’s car wheels have been the subject of class-action lawsuits across the country. Chevrolet’s 2015-2019 C7 Corvette Z06 and 2017-2019 Grand Sport wheels are reportedly susceptible to bending, cracking, and deforming, without impact damage. Many owners are finding that their warranty does not cover the cost of their damaged wheels.

WHY ARE CHEVROLET’S WHEELS ALLEGED TO BE DEFECTIVE?

GM made its wheels with materials that were cast rather than forged. Casting and forging are two different manufacturing processes that are used to manipulate metal. Studies have shown that forged materials are typically stronger, more resistant to deformation, and have a much longer lifespan. However, the forging process tends to be more expensive. The process of casting car wheels is easier and cheaper than the forging method, but the casting process can produce metal materials with porosity. Porosity refers to how porous metal is. Car wheels that use high-porosity metals have less structural integrity and are more susceptible to cracking. GM chose to use the easier and cheaper manufacturing process and, in doing so, chose to produce and sell wheels that would be more likely to crack and deform.
