Shub Law is investigating a recent cyberattack on India’s largest online grocery store. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, people are finding ways to social distance and lessen their in-person contact. This has resulted in a surge in online shopping. Unfortunately, our personal information becomes more at risk with an increase of online transactions.
STOLEN DATA FROM BIG BASKET DATABASE
The recent cyberattack occurred on October 14th and allegedly wasn’t detected until October 30th. In this cyberattack, full names, email addresses, phone numbers, addresses, and other information were stolen. Once stolen, records of this information were put for sale on the dark web for more than $40,000.
Big Basket reported the crime to cyber police, but didn’t comment on the full extent of the attack due to the ongoing investigation.
THOSE AFFECTED BY THE CYBERATTACK
Online grocery shopping, which was already becoming popular before the coronavirus pandemic, offers people safe ways to receive essential items. Big Basket, founded in 2011, has offered consumers thousands of products to choose from and be delivered right to their door. Just to name a few cities, Big Basket offers their services to Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, and Chandigarh Tricity city.
FIGHTING BACK AGAINST CYBERATTACKS
During these turbulent times, we shouldn’t have to worry about our personal information being stolen when we are just trying to purchase essential items. Having that valuable information being sold is even worse.
