Shub law firm is investigating Lenovo for misleading consumers. Lenovo claims that their Yoga 520, Yoga 730, and Flex 5 are “dual purpose” laptops functioning both as a tablet and a traditional laptop. However, purchasers are finding out that is not the case at all.
A cursory glance of Lenovo’s product reviews highlights the alleged problems with these laptops: faulty eDP wiring leading to display issues. “In anywhere from 6 months to 15 months, you will likely get the Blue Screen of Death. At that point, your options are to buy a new laptop or pay $800 for a new motherboard. Just hope it happens in the first 12 months, so your new laptop is covered by Warranty,” claimed one reviewer.
Another purchaser claimed they, “returned the computer to Best Buy. It succumbed to the black screen syndrome we eventually read about on the internet via our backup computer.” These consumers are not alone, as hundreds of purchasers have made the same complaint dating back to the release of the Lenovo laptops.
Lenovo’s purported “360° capability” may be hindered by a “wiring issue” that is exacerbated when a user folds the laptop into tablet or tent mode. Despite Lenovo’s alleged awareness of the issue and subsequent removal of all three laptops from its product line, consumers are still being forced to pay for costly repairs. However, the laptop’s warranty states, “Lenovo warrants that each Lenovo hardware product that you purchase is free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use during the warranty period.” It has been alleged that Lenovo is choosing not to honor its warranty leaving consumers to front the bill for repairs.
