Shub & Johns Files Class Action Alleging CentroMed Data Breach put approximately 350,000 Individuals at Risk of Fraud and Identity Theft
CentroMed Data Breach
On August 23, 20023, Shub & Johns LLC filed a class action lawsuit in the District Court of Bexar County, in San Antonio, Texas against El Centro Del Barrio, doing business as CentroMed, for a recent data breach that exposed patient information of approximately 350,000 patients and employees who entrusted their sensitive personal information to CentroMed.
According to the complaint filed by S&J, the Texas-based healthcare system learned on June 12, 2023 that a unknown and unauthorized party gained access to the CentroMed information network, accessing files that contained current and former patients’ data. This information reportedly included names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, financial account information, health insurance plan member identifications and claims data. CentroMed did not begin notifying affected individuals until August 11, 2023.
The case name is Grace v. El Centro Del Barrio D/B/A CentroMed, No. 23CI17950, and a copy of the complaint can be accessed here.
