SHUB & JOHNS FILES CLASS ACTION COMPLAINT AGAINST ONE BROOKLYN HEALTH FOR EXPOSING PATIENT’S INFORMATION IN A DATA BREACH
On April 26, 2023, Shub & Johns and its co-counsel filed a class action complaint in the Supreme Court for the State of New York against One Brooklyn Health (OBH) for claims arising out of a data breach after OBH allegedly failed to adequately safeguard the highly-sensitive medical and personal information entrusted to it.
One Brooklyn Health Data BreachResults in LawsuitOBH is a healthcare company based in Brooklyn, NY that operates three major hospitals and several nursing homes and health clinics. The data breach occurred on November 19, 2022 and exposed consumer information, including personal and protected health information, and in some instances, Social Security numbers. OBH did not publicly announce the data breach until six months later, on April 20, 2023, when it began notifying patients that their data had been compromised. The data breach impacted the sensitive health information of more than 235,000 individuals. The lawsuit alleges that OBH customers whose information was exposed to unauthorized access have experienced or now face a heightened risk of identity theft and fraud. The lawsuit seeks class action status on behalf of all people whose private information was compromised in the data breach notice published by One Brooklyn Health on or around April 20, 2023.
