Shub Law Firm is investigating Primitive Survivors for misleading advertising and billing practices after a series of complaints. The Oregon based retailer which specializes in outdoor recreational equipment published an advertisement promising a free flashlight with consumers purportedly paying only a shipping fee of $4.99. But afterwards, consumers were surprisingly billed between $39.00 and $49.00 for an unknown monthly subscription.
123 COMPLAINTS AGAINST PRIMITIVE SURVIVORS AND RISING
Consumers shouldn’t have to worry about being taken advantage of, especially when they are trying to support a business. Similar complaints against Primitive Survivors date back to 2017 regarding unauthorized credit card charges. On January, 27, 2020, the Better Business Bureau recognized a pattern in the numerous complaints against Primitive Survivors, leading to the survey advertising the free flashlight.
BBB reached out to Primitive Survivors to get to the bottom of the complaints. The retailer explained that “rogue affiliate websites” were the cause of the dubious advertising, and claimed they would address the websites themselves.
BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU REVOKES PRIMITIVE SURVIVORS’ ACCREDITATION
Not long after Primitive Survivors claimed to amend their business practices, they became uncooperative with BBB. BBB terminated the retailer’s business accreditation, citing that they failed to “Follow established legal and ethical advertising and selling practices, including, but not limited to, the BBB Code of Advertising,” and failure to “work with BBB and agree to modify, substantiate or discontinue advertising and selling practices when recommended.” Despite all of this, Primitive Survivors continues to have an online presence. To stay safe online, BBB advises consumers to “shop with a credit card, keep documentation of orders, and research before purchasing.”
