IntelliHartx Data Breach Potentially puts almost 500,000 Patients at Risk of Fraud
Shub & Johns LLC is currently investigating IntelliHartx, LLC (IntelliHart” or “ITx”) for an apparent failure to safeguard sensitive consumer and patient information in a data breach that was detected on or around February 2, 2023.
IntelliHartx, LLC Data Breach
IntelliHart, a Virginia-based healthcare revenue management company learned of a data breach that had impacted systems containing ITx’s consumers’ personal identification information and patient health information, causing this data to be compromised. According to ITx, an unauthorized user gained access to the company’s files for less than a day in early February. Even so, the data breach impacted approximately 489,000 individuals who had previously submitted information to ITx.
Though the data breach occurred in February, IntelliHart did not complete its review and investigation of the breach until May 29, 2023, and did not begin notifying affected individuals until June 8, 2023. This affected information may have included consumers’ names, Social Security numbers, addresses, dates of birth and protected health information.
What to do if you’re information was affected?
The cybercriminals responsible for the breach may have already obtained and sold the compromised consumer information. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, medical and/or government services ordered in their name, or their information being posted on the dark web.
