Genworth Financial Data Breach Impacts about 2.5 Million Clients and Employees

a bad agent takes data from a computer system.Shub & Johns LLC is currently investigating Genworth Financial (“Genworth”) for an apparent failure to safeguard sensitive consumer and employee information in a data breach that was detected on or around May 30, 2023. Genworth, a Virginia-based Fortune 500 life insurance company, discovered that cybersecurity breach impacted third-party systems that contained Genworth client and employee information.

Though the data security breach was discovered in May, the Company only publicly notified its customers of the breach on June 22, 2023 via a notice on their website. Genworth has indicated that approximately 2.5 million individuals have been impacted by the breach. Consumer information exposed in the breach may vary but can include full names, dates of birth, full addresses, states of residence, insurance policy numbers, Social Security numbers, and employee ID numbers.

The cybercriminals responsible for the breach may have already obtained and sold the compromised consumer information. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, medical and/or government services ordered in their name, or their information being posted on the dark web.
