Dr. Teal’s Melatonin Products Allegedly do not Provide Sleep Benefits
Shub & Johns launches an investigation into PDC Brands for the sale and marketing of its Dr. Teal’s melatonin sleep products, after reports indicated that PDC misrepresented the effects of its Dr. Teal’s brand sleep products and elected to not participate in regulatory processes. The National Advertising Division of the Better Business Bureau (“NAD”) referred these potentially misleading claims to the Federal Trade Commission for further review.
PDC Brands markets a good amount of its Dr. Teal’s brand sleeping products as including Melatonin. Consuming melatonin has provided some consumers with relief at nighttime, both helping and keeping individuals asleep. While consuming melatonin may aid with sleep, there is no proof to claims that the topical use of melatonin impacts sleep for consumers.
Dr. Teal’s melatonin sleep products may lead consumers to believe that these sleep aid products provide melatonin-derived sleep benefits. Dr. Teal’s claims that kids’ melatonin spray and balm use can help put your child to sleep. Adult balms and lotions sold by Dr. Teal’s also claim to that it’s the “secret to a good night’s rest.” These claims, however, have yet to be supported, and PDC Brands decision to not participate in the industry self-regulation process may not convince consumers that the claims are totally legit.
