Delta Dental of California Data Breach Impacts 7 million Individuals
Shub & Johns LLC is currently investigating Delta Dental of California (“Delta Dental”) for an apparent failure to safeguard sensitive patient information in a data breach that was detected on or around on or around June 1, 2023. Delta Dental, a California-based healthcare system with out of state affiliates, discovered a data breach within a third party software’s network system that contained Delta Dental patients’ information. Delta Dental claims that the unauthorized entity had access to its patients’ files between May, 27, 2023 and May 30, 2023, with approximately 7 million individuals being affected.
Delta Dental has indicated that personal identification information could have been impacted by the breach. This data can include patients’ names, contact information, financial account numbers, credit/debit card numbers including security codes information, and potentially more. Social security and other health information could also be affected.
The cybercriminals responsible for the breach may have already obtained and sold the compromised patient information. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, medical and/or government services ordered in their name, or their information being posted on the dark web.
