Wilkes-Barre, PA / January 12, 2023 – Shub Law Firm LLC, a consumer protection class action law firm, announces the filing of a proposed class action lawsuit today in the Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas for Luzerne County related to a data breach that recently occurred at Maternal & Family Health Services (“MFHS”). MFHS is a health and human services organization that operates various locations in Northeastern Pennsylvania. According to MFHS, it experienced a “sophisticated ransomware incident” on April 4, 2022, which types of incidents it acknowledges “are becoming increasingly common.” The MFHS incident may have resulted in an unauthorized individual(s) obtaining the following information of employees, patients and vendors with which it was entrusted: names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account/payment card information, usernames and passwords, medical information and/or health insurance information. Despite MFHS becoming aware of this incident last year, it only began notifying affected people on January 3, 2023. The unauthorized access to the organization’s systems occurred between August 21, 2021 and April 4, 2022.
The class action lawsuit filed by Shub Law Firm alleges that MFHS was negligent in its safeguarding of this sensitive information, and seeks to represent all persons whose data was compromised in the incident. Among other remedies, the lawsuit seeks monetary damages, enhanced credit monitoring, and the significant improvement of MFHS’s data security practices.
