SHUB LAW INVESTIGATES RECALLED PRODUCTS AT TOPS MARKET

Shub Law is investigating Tops Friendly Markets for numerous product recalls. Otherwise known as TOPS, and advertised as “your friendly neighborhood store,” offers one-stop shopping and has locations in Pennsylvania, New York, and Vermont.

TOPS notified its customers of a recent recall, with dates spanning from August 4, 2020, to October 8, 2020, of products ranging from flushable wipes to shrimp. TOPS claims that it removed the affected products as soon as it received the recall information, but customers may have still purchased the products.

UNDERSTANDING THE SEVERITY OF THE RECALLS

Food recalls occur when a manufacturer or distributor notify the public of health concerns with affected products. The recent recall involves Class I and Class II level of severity. Class I is classified as the most severe, as eating the food may involve serious health problems or death. Class II involves only a potential health issue if the product is eaten.

The FDA and USDA exist to keep consumers safe and healthy, but incidents still occur. For further information on product recalls and food safety, more information can be found at the USDA Food and Safety Inspection Service.

MULTIPLE PRODUCTS RECALLED

Seven total products were recalled for various reasons. The Class I items recalled were Cottonelle Flushable Wipes and TOPS Frozen Shrimp Three Sku’s. The manufacturer of Cottonelle Flushable Wipes, Kimberly-Clark, recalled the wipes along with Cottonelle GentlePlus Flushable Wipes due to dangerous bacteria. TOPS Frozen Shrimp was recalled due to potential salmonella contamination.

The Class II items recalled were TWT Hydroquinone Skin Bleaching Products, Hormel Skippy Super Chunk Peanut Butter, Full Circle Organic Popcorn Microwave Popcorn, Hostess Raspberry Zingers Part II, and Jose Ole. The reason for these product recalls vary, but include from possible mold, and issues with packaging that pose a threat with foreign glass and plastic materials.

FIGHTING BACK AGAINST CARELESS MANUFACTURERS

If these products were bought at TOPS, the market is offering a full refund to customers, but who is holding the manufacturers responsible? If we are trusting a manufacturer with our business, we should trust that their product is safe to eat and use. We have your back against large corporations that put profit over people!
