SHUB LAW INVESTIGATES NOOM FOR DECEPTIVE MEMBERSHIP BILLING PRACTICES

Shub Law Firm is investigating claims against Noom, the diet and nutrition membership service, for allegedly committing deceptive billing practices.

It has been alleged that Noom engages in deceptive billing practices. The scam goes like this. Noom offers a “risk-free” 14-day trial that costs between $1-$10. At the time the trial ends, consumers have reported that Noom charges them between $120-$160 for a six-month membership. Some consumers have even complained that Noom bills them before the free trial ends.

When consumers try to cancel their Noom membership, they are given the runaround. Noom requires customers to send them an email or a message to the customer service department. However, Noom fails to respond promptly. Sometimes Noom does not even respond at all. Worse yet, Noom refuses to refund customers and attempts to hide behind the fine print language in its terms and conditions. This is a classic bait and switch scheme that our experienced consumer fraud attorneys combat every day.

Customer Complaints Against Noom Continue to Mount

Noom’s deceptive billing practices were recently featured on Good Morning America. The Better Business Bureau (“BBB”) has received more than 1,200 complaints in the past 12 months from customers alleging that Noom offers misleading free trials and that subscriptions are difficult to cancel after free trials are complete. As a result, BBB issued a warning to Noom. The BBB released a statement saying, “consumers reportedly try to cancel the trial offer before it ends but still end up being billed for the subscriptions.”
