Summit Pathology Data Breach Investigation
Shub & Johns LLC is currently investigating Summit Pathology and Summit Pathology Laboratories (“together Summit Pathology”) for an apparent failure to safeguard sensitive consumer information in a data breach that was detected on or around April 18, 2024. Summit Pathology, a Colorado-based independent pathology laboratory and healthcare contractor, discovered that an unauthorized actor gained access to client data within Summit Pathology’s systems. Through further investigation, it was determined that the breach took place between April 18, 2024.
Though the data security breach was discovered in April 2024, the Company did not begin notifying impacted individuals until October 18, 2024, leaving consumers affected by the breach open to the risk of fraud. Summit Pathology has not indicated the approximate number of individuals that have been impacted by the breach. Consumer information exposed in the breach may vary but can include Name, Address, Social Security number, Medical information, Financial information, Diagnostic information, Date of birth, and Health insurance information.
The cybercriminals responsible for the breach may have already obtained and sold the compromised consumer information. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, medical and/or government services ordered in their name, or their information being posted on the dark web.
