Rutgers Gymnastics Team Experience Abuse, Allegations Indicate

Shub & Johns launches an investigation into Umme Salim-Beasly, the coach of the gymnastics program at Rutgers University, after allegations surface that the coach may have bullied certain athletes and favored others.

Former and current athletes come forward to voice their concerns and experiences with Salim-Beasley, who has been the head coach of the Rutgers University gymnastics team since 2018, and was a staff assistant with Rutgers between 2012 and 2015. These Rutgers gymnasts described the climate of the gymnastics program led by Salim-Beasley as being toxic, and provided detailed experiences of their time coached by her.

Rutgers University is currently engaged in an investigation in relation to the allegations made against Umme Salim-Beasley. With a previous investigation into emotional abuse allegations within the Rutgers softball team, the University is seemingly taking measures to identify and address any concerns about the gymnastics team’s culture and environment.
