Long Island Plastic Surgical Group Data Breach Investigation

hacker sitting at desk in low light.Shub & Johns LLC is currently investigating Long Island Plastic Surgical Group (LIP Surgical) for an apparent failure to safeguard sensitive consumer information in a data breach that was detected on or around October 4, 2024. LIP Surgical, a New York-based cosmetic and bodily reconstruction practice, discovered that an unauthorized actor gained access to client data within LIP Surgical’s systems. Through further investigation, it was determined that the breach took place between January 4 and January 8, 2024.

Though the data security breach was discovered in early January 2024, the Company’s investigation only concluded on September 15 and it finally sent impacted consumers notification of the data breach on October 4, 2024. LIP Surgical has indicated that approximately 161,000 individuals have been impacted by the breach. Consumer information exposed in the breach may vary but can include Social Security numbers, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers or state identification numbers, passport numbers, financial account information, biometric information, medical information, clinical photograph(s), and/or health insurance policy information.

The cybercriminals responsible for the breach may have already obtained and sold the compromised consumer information. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, medical and/or government services ordered in their name, or their information being posted on the dark web.
