Onix Group Data Breach – Court grants Final Approval to $1.25M Settlement in Class Action

Onix Group Data Breach

The Onix Group LLC, a Pennsylvania-based real estate company that provides management and consulting services to a variety of businesses, experienced a cyber security incident that compromised between March 20 and March 27, 2023. Businesses impacted by the Onix data breach include healthcare providers such as Addiction Recovery Services, Cadia Healthcare, and Physician’s Mobile X-Ray.

The incident potentially impacted sensitive information including consumers’ names, Social Security numbers, and dates of birth, as well as scheduling, billing, and clinical information. The data breach affected approximately 308k individuals, potentially putting them at risk of fraud or suspicious activity and misuse of their Private Information. Though the company experienced the breach in March of 2023, it did not inform impacted consumers until May 30, 2023.

Shub & Johns attorney filed a class action lawsuit against the Onix Group on June 15, 2023 in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.  On July 19, 2023, the court granted Plaintiff’s motion to consolidate class action cases against Onix in relation to the data breach and appointed Shub & Johns attorney Benjamin F. Johns as Interim Lead Class Counsel. On September 15, 2023, Shub & Johns, along with co-counsel, filed a Consolidated Amended Complaint against Onix following consolidation.

Final Approval of the Onix Settlement

On June 14, 2024, The Eastern Pennsylvania Court granted Plaintiffs’ motion for preliminary approval of a $1.25 million class action settlement in the consolidated Onix data breach litigation. Class members and impacted consumers were provided notice and given until October 17, 2024 to submit a claim seeking compensation or recourse from effects caused by the data breach.

Shub & Johns Partners, Samantha Holbrook and Benjamin F. Johns, attended the settlement’s final approval hearing held by the Court on November 20, 2024 in Philadelphia.

On December 13, 2024, following the Court’s hearing on final approval of the class action settlement, Honorable Judge Karen S. Marston issued an order granting final approval to the $1.25M settlement. Class members who submitted a valid claim for compensation can expect to receive their portion of the settlement fund in the months following the Court’s order.
